CLAS Department and Program Web Design

Web design is a central component of recruitment and retention for undergraduates, graduates, faculty, and staff at the University of Iowa. In terms of pure reach, web products at the University of Iowa receive hundreds of thousands of clicks, interactions, and engagements. It’s the touchstone for applying to the university, interacting with recruiters, faculty and administrators.

All told, digital storytelling and marketing through user-focused web design is a major component of my job responsibilities at the University of Iowa. For each project, I collaborate with project managers, writers, collegiate marketing directors, web developers, and key stakeholders in the departments. I negotiate key marketing messages and placement in the site’s hierarchy based on previous KPIs and inferences based on past data. Finally, I build each site using Drupal, and implement feedback with the goals of the department and key audiences in mind.
